On these hard times, supermarkets, fruit shops, fishmongers and butcheries continue to work to provide us with the essential food products. And, given the situation of Covid-19 pandemic, they should have extra care when handling the merchandising and, of course, the necessary equipment.
The POS and scales used in retail businesses every day are highly exposed to contact with several people. Which means that, these days, they are surfaces that need special attentions when it comes to use and clean them.
So, to you, who are working at a retail business, we offer some recommendations that you should adopt in the daily use of scales, to protect yourself, your employees and customers:
- Try for each scale to be used by only one operator, throughout each day or, at least, shift.
- Make sure employees wear gloves to work with the store’s scales (whether they have touchscreens or keyboards) - and that they follow the rules of using this protection equipment, as well as the rules of a correct hands’ disinfection.
- Every 30 minutes, at least, clean the scales’ surfaces, once they’re repeatedly under direct contact with employees and customers.
- Ensure you disinfect all the scales with the maximum detail (whether they are self-service or not), every day, when closing all your tasks.
- After meticulously cleaning your scales, check if all is working the best way possible, verifying the level bubble and trying out the equipment.
